Updated: Feb 12, 2022

"Sure I am this day we are masters of our fate, that the task which has been set before us is not above our strength; that its pangs and toils are not beyond our endurance. As long as we have faith in our own cause and an unconquerable will to win, victory will not be denied us"~ Winston Churchill

Words have power, and these words from the great Winston Churchill gave this future medical practitioner the strength and determination to pursue his dreams. Cejay, a Calabar High School alumnus, is well on his way to leaving his impact on the world. This youngster has numerous role models. In our talk, he outlines some of the excellent attributes of these persons that have resulted in their being inspirational to him, including Malcolm X, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Tupac Shakur. These include their passion, determination, and dedication to their art, which inspires him to strive even harder at everything he does in life. Cejay is a student at the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in Ukraine studying medicine.

His college application process posed a variety of challenges in his life. One of which included financial issues. In our discussion, he explained that during his time preparing for the application to university, he was faced with financial issues as well as family issues that led to a spell of depression in his life. However, he overcame these challenges by reaching out to family and friends. With this, he was able to successfully recover from his depressive state and have the opportunity to go to his dream university. At this university, to keep himself encouraged and motivated in his program, he highlighted that he had to be intrinsically motivated and, thus, he sought out a small group of friends who were as motivated as he was.

Cejay joined Dream Jamaica in 2013 and has since loved his decision. Here at Dream Jamaica, he first participated in their exploration program. Here, he explained that he was sensitized to a variety of methods to effectively navigate his high school. During his time at Dream, he participated in numerous year-long programs, such as webinars and community service projects. Additionally, in 2016, he recalled that there was a partnership between Dream Jamaica and YCDI. This organization assisted him in learning how to code effectively. With this newfound skill, he was able to become an effective member of the key club Jamaica District Board in the capacity of District Webmaster. He later applauds Dream Jamaica for helping him to achieve his goals. Through their active encouragement and provision of numerous learning opportunities, he was able to push himself to become the head student of his previous high school, along with numerous other achievements.

As he progress, he aspires to stay on his path to success while learning various life lessons along the way. He hopes to become a medical doctor and a World Health Organization official within the next five to ten years.
